Features from the tartans associated with their names, MacIntyre and Ayrshire District respectively, have been included in the design. The colours used reflect the institutions corporate colours of blue, silver and white. Green was added to reflect the University鈥檚 commitment to sustainability, and the design also features purple, from Scotland鈥檚 traditional thistle emblem. Green and purple are also associated with the women's suffrage movement, relevant given the connections of our founders with the 19th century women's movement.

The tartan was designed in Scotland by Kinloch Anderson, Scotland鈥檚 foremost experts in highland dress.
